Thank you for your evaluations too! they are so helpful for me to make changes to my teaching style and be the best teacher I can be. You guys are great! Have fun with the rest of the year!

Today we began woor in groups to create a skit about going to the doctor. half the groups had the flu, half had a cold. your skits need to include a "medico", a "farmeceutico", and an "enfermo". You need to use all of your vocabulary words. You need to write out your script and give me a copy before you perform. you MAY have a script when you perform.

We will perform on Wednesday ad Thursday.

If you think you have a missing assignment... some see me WEDNESDAY, because it needs to be in before I leave school on Thursday. No exceptions.

viernes y lunes y martes Ay Caramba!

On friday mr lingle was your teacher... you took your test.

on monday and tuesday we looked at saying things like "I like" "I dislike" "It interests" and "It bores"

things you need to know:
Me= me
Te= you (informal)
le= him, her, it, you (formal)

Nos= us
les= them, you all

Gustar= to be pleasing to or to please
Interesar= to be interesting to or to interest
Aburrir= to be boring to or to bore

Gusto = I please (I am pleasing to)
Gustas = You plase (you are pleasing to)
Gusta = It pleases (it is pleasing to)
Gustamos = We please (we are pleasing to)
Gustan = They please (they are pleasing to)

In order to complete the sentence you need an object that the subject pleases...
Me gusta = it pleases me
Te gusta = it pleases you
Le gusta = it pleases him
Nos gusta = it pleases us
les gusta = it pleases them

The same thing works for interesar and aburrir.

Something else tha tis important:
what is the difference between "Me aburro" and "Me Aburre"?
One means: "I bore myself", and one means "It bores me." BE CAREFUL!!!!

Today I passed back your tests and gave you time to correct your mistakes and turn those in.

The we read the interactive story "De la cabeza a los pies" VERY FUN!!

4-4-2011

Hola chicos!!

Hoy leemos un articulo muy difícil. Today we read a very difficult article. The activity is what is called an "Upper threshold" activity. The idea is that you can see 1. how much you have learned and 2. how much you still need to learn. It also lets me see those things :) Upper threshold activities are always difficult and frustrating, but you need to focus on how WELL you did, not dwell on the things you struggled with.

I read the article out loud. YOU wrote down what YOU thought the article said (we went sentence by sentence) I asked you not to talk to neighbors, because I wanted to know what YOU could understand... not what your neighbor could understand. We also worked on not interrupting.

Tomorrow we will go through the article and see how well you did translating!

buenas noches!

April Fools

Today I graded your quizzes and found that we struggled a few verbs. Here is what I saw:

Devolver is an IRREGULAR verb. It is an "O to UE" verb. I would write it in your notes like this: O -> UE

DEVUELVO DEVOLVEMOS
DEVUELVES
DEVUELVE DEVUELVEN
*notive that it is regular in the nosotros form... all irregular verbs are regular in the nosotros and vosotros forms

Next:

Meter is a REGULAR verb. It is TOTALLY NORMAL IN EVERY WAY! Some people tried to put in extra letters... but alas... you didn't need to!

METO METEMOS
METES
METE METEN

And of course we could also review IR and TENER because some of us forgot those.
IR is COMPLETELY irregular in EVERY WAY! It looks like this:

VOY VAMOS
VAS
VA VAN

TENER is also very irregular. It looks like this:
TENGO TENEMOS
TIENES
TIENE TIENEN

Not only is it what we call a "GO verb" (the verbs that end in GO in the Yo form) but it is also what we call an "E to IE" verb. You can write it in your notes as: E -> IE. Notice again that it is normal in the nosotros form!

We also FINALLY finished Harry Potter!

march 30... out like a lamb

I'm sorry I didn't get this up sooner, my internet wasn't working.

Yesterday we took a quiz on verbs. Then I gave you a worksheet for homework. THEN I let you have your vocabulary quizzes back so we could go through and make corrections. Each one you corrected was worth half the value that you lost (so if you lost 1/2 a point you got 1/4 a point back)

Today we will FINALLY finish Harry Potter! I am so sorry it has taken so long, but short days are good days for it because we can't seem to get into a lesson before we have to pack up.

Hello hispanohablantes!!

Today we reviewed for our quiz which will be TOMORROW!!! This quiz will consist of vocabulary for our chapter on "deportes" I will try to upload a some links to our power points so you can use them to review!

The quiz will have 10 questions for each sport. You MUST spell the words correctly or you will be docked points. for 5 of the 10 questions you will need to write the word in English (I don't care if those words are spelled correctly) and the other 5 will need to be written in Spanish (yes spelling counts.)

Juniors, you will not be in class tomorrow, so you will need to set a time with me to take your quiz :)

Lunes el 21 de marzo

Today we reviewed our vocab words for soccer and then headed for the gym
In the gym we practiced:
driblando (dribbling)
lanzando (kicking)
pasando (passing)
bloqueando (blocking)
tirando (shooting)
and hablando (speaking)

When you were the kicker, you had to say "tiro" as you shot the ball at the goal.
When you were the goalie you had to say "Soy elportero (la portera) y guardo la porteri'a" (I am the goalie and i guard the goal)
When you stopped the ball from entering the goal you had to say "bloqueo el balo'n!" (I block the ball)
When you didn't stop the ball you had to shout "GOL!"

Tomorrow we will play soccer for half an hour and then we will work on writing soccer stories.
Feliz lunes!

porteri'a = goal (the physical thing with the net)
estadio = stadium
bloquear = block
guardar = guard
dar toques = juggle
gol= goal
ganar = to win
perder = to lose

we then reviewed the body parts for the people who were gone for that lesson and did Head shoulders knees and toes and the hokey pokey. See the previous post for the words to those two songs.

He may ask you questions, he might not. If he askes you a question, please be respectful and answer him as best you can! He will be here to observe ME and how good of a teacher I am for YOU.

See you tomorrow!

Class on March 8

Today we worked on final drafts of our basketball stories. You will need to write your stories in your best penmanship in PEN!!
Your illustration needs to be on white computer paper. I would like you to color them, but you don't HAVE to. Your final drafts of your stories are due TOMORROW, and your illustrations are not due until we are putting together our final book.

We will be writing stories for every sport in this section. I feel like I need to remind you. DO NOT USE GOOGLE TRANSLATE!!!! It is INCORRECT! First of all, you do not know how to use many of the verb tenses that they will give you. Second, the grammar is completely wrong. Third, the vocabulary does NOT always translate correctly from English. It is SO obvious when you use translators. Not only is it creating incorrect stories, but it isn't helping you at all with your grammar. YOU need to be writing your stories because YOU are the one that needs to know how to write in Spanish. As much as I love correcting a million mistakes on papers, I don't. And I particularly get upset when the mistakes are happening because you were too lazy to do your homework yourself.

I would like to thank the students who did their own homework without using a translator. I'm sure you can share with your classmates that you hardly had any corrections to make on your stories compared to the people using a translating site.

I will thank you to NEVER use a translator again. Please TRUST that Mr. Lingle and myself are teaching you everything you need to know for the level of Spanish you are in. We would not lead you astray!!
